Windows System Defender

Information about Windows System Defender

Windows System Defender is a new rogue anti-spyware program and a clone of the recently popular rogue Windows PC Defender, which has enjoyed quite a bit of success some time back. This parasite uses downloader trojans, such as Vundo, to infect the system, but may also use drive-by downloads for the same purpose. This parasite is a regular rogue in the sense that it uses illicit methods both to spread and promote it's fake "licensed version".

Once inside, Windows System Defender begins it's campaign of deception. First of all the rogue will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications in order to create the illusion that the user's system is infected, as well as to suggest that the user should download Windows System Defender to dispose of the non-existent threats. Like most other rogues, Windows System Defender will also perform fake system scans, which mark legitimate files as threats, and claiming that the full version of this "security program" is needed in order to dispose of these threats.

Windows System Defender is really annoying in many ways: it will block Task Manager, Registry Editor, Safe Mode, System Restore, and pretty much any normal security program. It will also hijack the browser and significantly slow the system down.

It is a pest and should be removed immediatelly upon detection.
