Information about Data Protection
Data Protection is yet another rogue anti-spyware program that reports fake infections and displays fake security alerts to make you believe that your computer is infected with malicious software. It uses mainly false positives and then asks to buy the program to remove the infections. The scan results are false so obviously there is no need to worry about those infections. The only real infection is Data Protection itself. As a typical rogue anti-spyware program it's promoted through the use of Trojans and/or other malware. Once running, it supposedly scans your computer for malware and display a list of infectons that can't be removed with a trial version of the proram, so then you will be promoted to buy the program.
When active, DataProtection will also display numerous pop-ups and warnings every few minutes to make the whole scam look more realistic. But just like the false scan results, those fake alerts should be ignored. What is more, Data Protection will block legitimate anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and also security related websites mainly to protect itself from being removed. You may notice that your computer runs slower than usual or that you can't open certain Windows tools or options such as Task Manager or Registry Editor. Also note that this virus may install rootkit on your PC, most likely from the TDSS rootkit family. That's why we strongly recommend you to use a reliable and reputable anti-spyware program in order to completely remove this malware from your computer. For more information please read the removal instructions below.
