Information about Malware Defense
Malware Defense is a rogue anti-virus program that generates fake security alerts and reports fake system security threats/infections in order to make you think that your computer is infected with various viruses, for example Trojans, worms and other malicious software. The reason why it does that is actually very simple. MalwareDefense wants to trick you into purchasing the full version of the program. The rogue program itself can not make any damage to the system, but the problem is that this malicious software comes with Trojans. Trojan viruses can download additional malware and make the situation very complicated. That's why you should remove this infection and related Trojans from your computer as soon as possible.
Most of the time, Malware Defense must be manually installed. But please note, that this virus and Trojans impersonate legitimate software making it very difficult to decide whether it can be trusted or not. When running, MalwareDefense will run a fake system scan and display numerous infections that can't be removed with a trial version of this program. Of course, it may stop its misleading actions, but that doesn't mean that your PC is clean now. This is still a scam. Furthermore, Malware Defense will display fake security alerts and notifications stating that your computer has many security problems. One of many fake security alerts will state:
There is unauthorized antivirus software detected on your computer. It is recommend you to remove it, otherwise it could conflict with Malware Defense. Press 'OK' to terminate [Program name]
The main problem is that Malware Defense will probably block anti-virus software. If your computer is infected very badly it will definitely block security software and block security related websites. Now, how to solve these problems? Firs of all, you must end the main Malware Defense process: mdefense.exe. If you can't use the Task Manager, then download and use Process Explorer (note: rename procexp.exe to explorer.com before saving it). If that won't help, then boot your PC in "Safe mode with Networking" and do all the above steps again. Additionally, you may also use Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) from Microsoft to remove Trojans. Please also read the removal guide below or use an automatic removal tool to remove Malware Defense from your computer immediately.
